Jessie Noreen White {nee McConnell} Noreen passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of October 11, 2023 at the age of 91. Left to grieve her loss and celebrate her memory are her daughters Elizabeth and Judi {George Gilraine}, her grandchildren Willard, Krystal and Sandra Kirkland {Kirk} and her great-granddaughter Judith Kirkland. Her nieces Gay Wiley, Kathi McConnell-Hore, nephews Michael Sunley, Jeff McConnell, cousins Sheila Norman, Margaret Lawn, Betty Fraser and many nieces, nephews and friends. Noreen is now reunited with the love of her life Willard White who predeceased her in the summer of 2000.  She is also predeceased by her parents Mervyn McConnell and Mary Elizabeth Usher, her sister Helen Sunley {Purvis}, and her brother Barry McConnell {Joan}. Noreen was born on July 30th, 1932, and grew up on the family farm in the Lavinia district in Manitoba and attended school in Lavinia and Hamiota, Manitoba. Following high school, Noreen went on to Normal school and the University of Manitoba to get her teachers degree. Noreen continued her schooling for many years and added a few more degrees to the list from the University of Ottawa and the University of McGill. After receiving her teaching degree Noreen went on to teach in Hamiota and Brandon, Manitoba, Rankin Inlet, Nt. until she finally settled in Maniwaki where she met and later married Willard. Noreen’s greatest joy was in her relationship with her family and friends, fur babies and the students with whom she taught. Noreen taught as the head teacher at the Maniwaki Intermediate School for the Western Quebec School Board for 32 years. Following early retirement her life was enriched by the time she spent in many volunteer positions, particularly those within the United Church, Women’s Legion Auxiliary, Cercle des Fermières, and the Friendly Association of Retired Teachers to name a few. Noreen was renowned for her famous pecan pies which she baked for many United Church bake sales, Harvest Suppers and as gifts. Noreen loved laughing and visiting and playing cards, Yahtzee and bingo with family and friends. She also loved going out to the restaurant for breakfast, filet mignon dinners, escargot, onion rings and soft vanilla ice cream cones. Noreen was also a very artsy person and took up many hobbies which included her stained glass, knitting, crocheting, sewing and finally diamond dot painting. Her passions were to watch a good movie, read at least 5 books at the same time and driving up and down highway 105. She was continuously learning to satisfy her curiosity and joy of life. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at La Residence la Belle Epoque who provided support to Noreen during her stay there, especially Genevieve and Helen. A very big thank-you also goes out to her very many close and dear friends in Maniwaki. As per Noreen’s wishes, a graveside service will be held on October 21, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Aumond Cemetery. For those who wish, donations can be made to La Residence la Belle Epoque, 175 Rue Commerciale, Maniwaki, QC J9E 1P1. It has been said that many people will walk in and out of your life, but only love will leave footprints in your heart. Noreen has left a legacy of footprints for which we give thanks.
