Ruby Wright Dumont, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, at La Maison des aînés et alternatives in Maniwaki, Quebec.

Ruby was born and raised in Greensburg, Indiana, USA, where she also raised her children until her eldest reached the age of 13. She later moved to Kitigan Zibi Anishnabeg, which became her home for the remainder of her life and a place she held close to her heart.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frederick Dumont Whiteduck; her sons: Freddy Jo Dumont-Whiteduck, and Stanley Dumont-Whiteduck. Her daughter, Kathey Dumont-Whiteduck, and her grandson, Troy Emmerson.

Ruby is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Victoria Dumont-Whiteduck, and her dear partner, Harry Dumont; her grandchildren, Natasha Emmerson, Juanita Emmerson, Josh Dumont, Dawna Dumont, Freddy Dumont, Jeremy Dumont, and Marky Commanda; as wll as her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Ruby was well known for her love of gardening, especially her beautifully crafted rock garden at her home. She was also the proud owner of Ruby’s Crafts, an Indigenous craft shop that welcomed visitors from around the world and served as a space for people to engage with and learn about Indigenous arts and crafts. Her creativity, knowledge, and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

A wake for Ruby’s family will be held on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, from 9:00am to 7:00pm at the Kitigan Zibi Funeral Home, with a family feast held during this time. The wake will then be open to friends and community members from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.
The wake will continue Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, from 8:00am to 1:00pm, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00pm, followed by the burial at the Kitigan Zibi Cemetery.

Ruby loved her family deeply and will forever be loved, cherished, and remembered.
