It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the beloved Severe “Saben” Ratt. Surrounded by his wife, Betsy, their children, and relatives, Saben departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.

He was a devoted husband to Betsy Matchewan-Ratt. A loving father to: Jenny (Stephan), Casey (Rachel), Nicole (Andrew), Adam, Christal, and Kimberly (Moïse). He will be remembered by his seventeen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sister Bella.

Saben was predeceased by his parents: the late Hermaline and Johnny Ratt, and his siblings: Archie, Jean Paul, Caroline, and Cecine, who he now joins in the spirit world, with all his ancestors.

Saben will be remembered as a passionate advocate for his People, an enthusiastic hockey fan, and a friend to all. Miigwetc for representing Mitchikanibikok Inik as Okima in 1975-1976. His legendary love for square dancing and gatherings brought joy to many. His presence within the community and at tournaments will be deeply missed.

Saben will be waked January 20, 2026, at McConnery’s Funeral Home, 206 Cartier, Maniwaki, from 4pm to 10pm, and from 9am to 10pm January 21, 2026. Burial will take place, Thursday January 22, 2026, at noon in Rapid Lake.
