It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Xavier Commanda, who departed this life on April 23, 2026, at Hull Hospital at the age of 65. He was the beloved son of the late Norman Commanda Sr. and the late Florence Decontie.
Xavier will be deeply missed by his significant other, Kathy Erardi.
He was the cherished brother of John McConini (Mary Ottawa), Patrick McConini (Janet McConini), Daisey Ottawa (Sam Ottawa), Daniel Mikonini (Joan McConini), Joan Tenasco (the late Clifford T.), and Norman Commanda Jr.. He was predeceased by his siblings Hector McConini (“Big Beaver”), Victoria Whiteduck (Rheal Whiteduck), Albert McConini (Margaret McConini), Jimmy Commanda, and Claudette Commanda.
Xavier was a proud and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, including Gina McConini (Joe Wawatie), Doreen McConini (PJ Commando), Peter McConini (Brenda Beaudoin), Christine McConini, Eric McConini, Kenny Whiteduck (Jacqueline Deschenes), Tim Whiteduck (Cheryl Tenasco), Sheila Whiteduck, Debbie Whiteduck, Chris McConini (Ann Richard), Francine McConini, Jenny McConini (Jean Marc Carriere), Nick McConini (Valerie Charette), Mikey McConini, Joanne McConini, Neil McConini, Lisa Mae McConini (Marcel Horton), Jason McConini, Kris McConini, Chris Tenasco (Dawn Cayer), Stephanie Tenasco (Clinton Commando), Angel Commanda, and Curtis Brazeau-Commanda. He was predeceased by nieces and nephews Cathy McConini, Glenn McConini, Fred Commanda, and Leona Commanda.
He will also be fondly remembered by his many great-nieces and great-nephews. Xavier held a special soft spot in his heart for Morgan Commanda-Dewache and Kaylee Commanda.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Kitigan Zibi Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Kitigan Zibi Cemetery.
Xavier will be remembered for the love he carried for his family and the kindness he showed to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
